Co-President, Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament

Rebecca Harms is one of Europe’s leading Green politicians and has been a co-president of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament since 2009. Rebecca was one of the co-founders of a German citizen’s group fighting against nuclear waste disposal in Gorleben. Her way into active politics started from here, and it gave her close ties to Ukraine after the Chernobyl catastrophe in 1986. In 1994, she was elected to the regional parliament in Lower Saxony and in 2004 in the European Parliament. Currently, Rebecca Harms is, amongst other positions in the Parliament, a member of the Committee on automotive emissions, the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the delegations to Russia and to Ukraine.
Rebecca is renowned for her support to democratic and reformist movements in Russia and the former Soviet Union. She is an outspoken advocate for human rights worldwide.
